Celebrating 10 Years of Ask for Angela on The One Show
What an incredible day it’s been filming with the BBC and Screenhouse Productions. Ask for Angela has turned 10, and to mark it we got to share the story on The One Show a milestone I still can’t quite believe when I think back to where it all started in 2016.
Meeting Hollie and Remembering the Real Angela
The real highlight, though, had nothing to do with cameras or studio lights. It was finally meeting Hollie, Angela’s daughter, in person. We’d spoken over screens and the phone more times than I can count, but there is nothing like sitting across from someone, and sharing that moment properly rather than through a webcam. It meant the world to me. Angela’s legacy is at the very heart of this scheme, and having Hollie there, celebrating alongside us, made the whole day feel complete in a way no video call ever could.
How Ask for Angela Began in Lincoln
I keep coming back to how this all began. Lincoln took a genuine gamble on Ask for Angela when it was nothing no track record, no proof it would work, just an idea and a hope that it might help someone. That leap of faith is the reason we’re even having this conversation ten years later. Back then it was one city, one scheme, one hope. Now it has genuinely gone global, adopted in venues and cities all over the world, quietly giving people a way to ask for help when they need it most.
Ask for Angela Ten Years On
Ten years on, it still comes back to that same simple idea: give someone in a difficult situation a discreet way to get support. Seeing how far it’s travelled, and celebrating it with the people who made it possible, is something I’ll carry with me for a long time.
